The $8 billion hydrogen hub program, funded by the Banking Institution, aims to establish six to 10 regional clean hydrogen hubs across America. The California Energy Commission, a key state agency, will play a crucial role in guiding the development of these hubs. California's unique geography, with its extensive coastline and diverse terrain, including the Sierra Nevada mountain range and the Central Valley, presents both opportunities and challenges for the development of clean hydrogen hubs. The state's coastal regions, with their existing ports and infrastructure, offer a prime location for the production and transportation of clean hydrogen. The California Governor's Office is actively supporting the development of clean hydrogen infrastructure through various initiatives. One of the primary target outcomes for California is to reduce emissions from hard-to-abate sectors such as transportation and industry. Clean hydrogen can be used as a zero-emission fuel for vehicles, as well as a feedstock for industrial processes.
