Summary

This mini-grant program supports community-based literacy and cultural programs that celebrate Latino/x/é heritage during a nationally recognized children’s and book culture month. It offers awards to public libraries, school libraries, academic institutions, and community organizations across the U.S. and Puerto Rico.


Eligible applicants must be current members of the sponsoring association or its regional chapters and host events during April. Projects should highlight Latino/x/é authors, performers, or traditions, focusing on creativity and engagement. Examples include bilingual storytimes, cultural workshops, creative performances, and community reading programs.


Each annual cycle awards up to five mini-grants of $500 each to support event expenses such as author visits, performers, books, materials, publicity, refreshments, and decorations. Some regional chapters, like the Los Angeles branch, may offer an additional grant for eligible members in their area.


Selection is based on factors such as originality, celebration of culture, community involvement, and outreach strategy. Grant recipients are required to credit the sponsoring association in publicity and may be featured on national communications channels.
