Summary

This funding opportunity supports nonprofit-led initiatives across multiple U.S. states and the District of Columbia aimed at improving financial literacy and equitable banking access for underbanked and vulnerable populations. Eligible regions have included parts of the Northeast, Mid‑Atlantic, Southeast, and New England, though the geographic scope may expand depending on future cycles.

Open exclusively to U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofits or fiscally sponsored entities, the program targets organizations with expertise in consumer education or advocacy and a strong track record serving communities such as low-income households, veterans, students, non-English speakers, and communities of color. Small businesses and individuals are not eligible, although partnerships with financial service providers are encouraged when led by eligible nonprofits.

Funds may be used for public workshops, curriculum development, bilingual materials, community outreach, and advocacy efforts aimed at reducing inequities in banking—such as promoting fair fee structures, encouraging use of deposit accounts, and educating on predatory credit practices . Grants may also support policy engagement and research with measurable impact goals .

Award amounts are capped at $100,000 per project, even for multi-year proposals, typically supporting work over a 12-month period. Projects may span longer if justified, but the total funding remains the same.

Application cycles include an initial letter of inquiry followed by an invitation for full proposals. In the latest round, the LOI was due in early March, with full proposals in early April and decisions by May. Grant cycles are not scheduled annually; funding rounds occur based on settlement availability.
